Metalkol RTR Project in Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo, was the largest surface cobalt-producing mine in the world, producing approximately 55,908 tonnes of cobalt and an estimated 4.78 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Metalkol RTR Project is owned by Eurasian Resources Group Sarl. The second largest surface cobalt-producing mine with an estimated production of 18,501 tonnes of cobalt and an estimated 16.6 mmtpa of ROM in 2021, was the Tenke Fungurume Mine located in Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Tenke Fungurume Mine is owned by China Molybdenum Co Ltd, and is due to operate until 2047.
