Rudna Mine in Lower Silesian, Poland, was the largest underground silver-producing mine in the world, producing approximately 16.6 million ounces of silver and an estimated 11.87 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Rudna Mine is owned by KGHM Polska Miedz SA, and is due to operate until 2042. The second largest underground silver-producing mine with an estimated production of 14.8 million ounces of silver and an estimated 3.22 mmtpa of ROM in 2021, was the Santa Elena Mine (Mexus Gold) located in Sonora, Poland. The Santa Elena Mine (Mexus Gold) is owned by Mexus Gold U.S..
Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mine located in Lower Silesian, Poland was the third-largest mine, the Cannington Mine located in Queensland, Australia was the fourth-largest mine, and the San Julian Project located in Chihuahua, Mexico was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated silver production of 14.3 million ounces, 13.7 million ounces and 13.2 million ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mine, the Cannington Mine and the San Julian Project had an estimated ROM production of 12.09 mmtpa, 2.82 mmtpa and 0.64 mmtpa respectively. The Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mine is owned by KGHM Polska Miedz SA which is due to operate until 2057, the Cannington Mine is owned by South32 Ltd which is due to operate until 2031 and the San Julian Project is owned by Industrias Penoles SAB de CV which is due to operate until 2024.
The five largest silver mines, i.e., Rudna Mine, Santa Elena Mine (Mexus Gold), Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mine, Cannington Mine, and San Julian Project, cumulatively produced approximately 72.6 million ounces of silver, 30.64 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
