Cigar Lake Project in Saskatchewan, Canada, was the largest uranium-producing mine in the world, producing approximately 4,403 tonnes of uranium and an estimated 0.04 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Cigar Lake Project is owned by Cameco Corp, and is due to operate until 2029. The second largest uranium-producing mine with an estimated uranium production of 4,155 tonnes and an estimated 10.89 mmtpa of ROM, was the Husab Uranium Mine located in Erongo, Canada. The Husab Uranium Mine is owned by China General Nuclear Power Corp, and is due to operate until 2040.
Inkai Mine located in South Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan was the third-largest mine, the Muyunkum Mine located in South Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan was the fourth-largest mine, and the Rossing Mine located in Erongo, Namibia was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated uranium production of 3,851 tonnes, 3,679 tonnes and 3,600 tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Inkai Mine, the Muyunkum Mine and the Rossing Mine had an estimated ROM production of 12.51 mmtpa, 0.72 mmtpa and 10 mmtpa respectively. The Inkai Mine is owned by Kazatomprom which is due to operate until 2045, the Muyunkum Mine is owned by Orano SA and the Rossing Mine is owned by China National Nuclear Corp which is due to operate until 2045.
The five largest uranium mines, i.e., Cigar Lake Project, Husab Uranium Mine, Inkai Mine, Muyunkum Mine, and Rossing Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 19,688 tonnes of uranium, 34.16 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
