Gevra OC Mine in Chhattisgarh, was the largest mine in India, producing approximately 49.04 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Gevra OC Mine is owned by Coal India Ltd, and is due to operate until 2029. The second largest mine with approximately 29.58 mmtpa of ROM, was the Kusmunda OC Mine located in Chhattisgarh. The Kusmunda OC Mine is owned by Coal India Ltd, and is due to operate until 2040.
Bhubaneswari OCP Mine located in Odisha was the third-largest mine, the Nimbeti Limestone Mine located in Rajasthan was the fourth-largest mine, and the Dipka OC Project located in Chhattisgarh was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 27.32 mmtpa, 23.06 mmtpa and 21.5 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Bhubaneswari OCP Mine is owned by Coal India Ltd which is due to operate until 2025, the Nimbeti Limestone Mine is owned by Shree Cement Ltd which is due to operate until 2044 and the Dipka OC Project is owned by Coal India Ltd which is due to operate until 2028.
The five largest mines, i.e., Gevra OC Mine, Kusmunda OC Mine, Bhubaneswari OCP Mine, Nimbeti Limestone Mine, and Dipka OC Project, cumulatively produced approximately 150.5 mmtpa of ROM in 2021
