Gevra OC Mine in Chhattisgarh, was the largest surface coal-producing mine in India, producing approximately 47.1 million tonnes of coal and an estimated 49.04 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Gevra OC Mine is owned by Coal India Ltd, and is due to operate until 2028. The second largest surface coal-producing mine with an estimated production of 26.2 million tonnes of coal and approximately 27.32 mmtpa of ROM, was the Bhubaneswari OCP Mine located in Odisha. The Bhubaneswari OCP Mine is owned by Coal India Ltd, and is due to operate until 2024.
