Rampura Agucha Mine in Rajasthan, was the largest zinc-producing mine in India, producing approximately 395.6 thousand tonnes of zinc and an estimated 3.9 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Rampura Agucha Mine is owned by Vedanta Resources Ltd, and is due to operate until 2027. The second largest zinc-producing mine with an estimated zinc production of 104 thousand tonnes and an estimated 2.96 mmtpa of ROM, was the Sindesar Khurd Mine located in Rajasthan. The Sindesar Khurd Mine is owned by Vedanta Resources Ltd, and is due to operate until 2030.
Zawar Mine located in Rajasthan was the third-largest mine, the Kayad Mine located in Rajasthan was the fourth-largest mine, and the Rajpura Dariba Mine located in Rajasthan was the fifth-largest mine, with a total zinc production of 59.6 thousand tonnes, 57.5 thousand tonnes and 39.9 thousand tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Zawar Mine, the Kayad Mine and the Rajpura Dariba Mine had an estimated ROM production of 2.72 mmtpa, 0.93 mmtpa and 0.92 mmtpa respectively. The Zawar Mine is owned by Vedanta Resources Ltd which is due to operate until 2029, the Kayad Mine is owned by Vedanta Resources Ltd which is due to operate until 2023 and the Rajpura Dariba Mine is owned by Vedanta Resources Ltd which is due to operate until 2044.
The five largest zinc mines, i.e., Rampura Agucha Mine, Sindesar Khurd Mine, Zawar Mine, Kayad Mine, and Rajpura Dariba Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 656.6 thousand tonnes of zinc, 11.39 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
