San Roque F M Mine in Ancash, was the largest coal-producing mine in Peru, producing approximately 48,660 tonnes of coal and an estimated 0.1 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The San Roque F M Mine is owned by San Roque F.M. S.A.C.. The second largest coal-producing mine with an estimated coal production of 8,024 tonnes and an estimated 0.01 mmtpa of ROM, was the Minera Carbonifera Andina located in Ancash. The Minera Carbonifera Andina is owned by Transportes, Servicios Mineros y Agricolas S.A.C..
S.M.R.L. Coal Mine located in Lima was the third-largest mine, the Atalaya Mine located in Lima was the fourth-largest mine, and the El Rocio Mine located in La Libertad was the fifth-largest mine, with a total coal production of 7,198 tonnes, 6,650 tonnes and 5,776 tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The S.M.R.L. Coal Mine, the Atalaya Mine and the El Rocio Mine had an estimated ROM production of 0.01 mmtpa, 0.01 mmtpa and 0.01 mmtpa respectively. The S.M.R.L. Coal Mine is owned by Sociedad Minera de Responsabilidad Limitada La Luminose de Cajamarca, the Atalaya Mine is owned by Mining Atalaya S.A.C. and the El Rocio Mine is owned by Corporacion Minera Libra S.A.C..
The five largest coal mines, i.e., San Roque F M Mine, Minera Carbonifera Andina, S.M.R.L. Coal Mine, Atalaya Mine, and El Rocio Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 76,308 tonnes of coal, 0.10 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
