Cuajone Mine in Moquegua, was the largest gold-producing mine in Peru, producing approximately 294.2 thousand ounces of gold and an estimated 29.3 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Cuajone Mine is owned by Grupo Mexico SAB de CV. The second largest gold-producing mine with an estimated gold production of 258.5 thousand ounces and an estimated 18.44 mmtpa of ROM, was the Yanacocha Mine located in Moquegua. The Yanacocha Mine is owned by Newmont Corp, and is due to operate until 2040.
Florencia and Santa Rosa Mine located in Moquegua was the third-largest mine, the Retamas Mine located in La Libertad was the fourth-largest mine, and the Inmaculada Mine located in Cusco was the fifth-largest mine, with a total gold production of 204.1 thousand ounces, 165.7 thousand ounces and 164.6 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Florencia and Santa Rosa Mine, the Retamas Mine and the Inmaculada Mine had an estimated ROM production of 13.61 mmtpa, 8.28 mmtpa and 1.34 mmtpa respectively. The Florencia and Santa Rosa Mine is owned by Aruntani SAC, the Retamas Mine is owned by Minera Aurifera Retamas S.A. and the Inmaculada Mine is owned by Hochschild Mining plc which is due to operate until 2026.
The five largest gold mines, i.e., Cuajone Mine, Yanacocha Mine, Florencia and Santa Rosa Mine, Retamas Mine, and Inmaculada Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 1,087.1 thousand ounces of gold, 71.01 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
