Antamina Mine in Ancash, was the largest silver-producing mine in Peru, producing approximately 19,362 thousand ounces of silver and an estimated 55.6 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Antamina Mine is owned by Glencore Plc, and is due to operate until 2028. The second largest silver-producing mine with an estimated silver production of 7,212 thousand ounces and an estimated 37.22 mmtpa of ROM, was the Toromocho Project located in Ancash. The Toromocho Project is owned by Aluminum Corporation of China Ltd, and is due to operate until 2056.
Inmaculada Mine located in Cusco was the third-largest mine, the Cerro Verde Mine located in Arequipa was the fourth-largest mine, and the Huaron Mine located in Pasco was the fifth-largest mine, with a total silver production of 6,236 thousand ounces, 4,351 thousand ounces and 3,810 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Inmaculada Mine, the Cerro Verde Mine and the Huaron Mine had an estimated ROM production of 1.34 mmtpa, 162.25 mmtpa and 0.93 mmtpa respectively. The Inmaculada Mine is owned by Hochschild Mining plc which is due to operate until 2026, the Cerro Verde Mine is owned by Freeport-McMoRan Inc which is due to operate until 2051 and the Huaron Mine is owned by Pan American Silver Corp which is due to operate until 2030.
The five largest silver mines, i.e., Antamina Mine, Toromocho Project, Inmaculada Mine, Cerro Verde Mine, and Huaron Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 40,971 thousand ounces of silver, 257.37 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
