Gaisky Mine Complex in Orenburg Oblast, was the largest copper-producing mine in Russia, producing approximately 180.4 thousand tonnes of copper and an estimated 8 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Gaisky Mine Complex is owned by Ural Mining and Metallurgical Co. The second largest copper-producing mine with an estimated copper production of 96 thousand tonnes and an estimated 4.79 mmtpa of ROM, was the Oktyabrsky Mine located in Orenburg Oblast. The Oktyabrsky Mine is owned by MMC Norilsk Nickel, and is due to operate until 2025.
Komsomolsky Mine located in Krasnoyarsk Krai was the third-largest mine, the Taimyrsky Mine located in Krasnoyarsk Krai was the fourth-largest mine, and the Chita Mine located in Zabaykalsky Krai was the fifth-largest mine, with a total copper production of 76.3 thousand tonnes, 75.9 thousand tonnes and 67.8 thousand tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Komsomolsky Mine, the Taimyrsky Mine and the Chita Mine had an estimated ROM production of 4.26 mmtpa, 2.6 mmtpa and 15.4 mmtpa respectively. The Komsomolsky Mine is owned by MMC Norilsk Nickel, the Taimyrsky Mine is owned by MMC Norilsk Nickel which is due to operate until 2038 and the Chita Mine is owned by MMC Norilsk Nickel which is due to operate until 2050.
The five largest copper mines, i.e., Gaisky Mine Complex, Oktyabrsky Mine, Komsomolsky Mine, Taimyrsky Mine, and Chita Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 496.4 thousand tonnes of copper, 35.03 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
