Lebedinsky GOK Mine in Belgorod Oblast, was the largest surface iron ore-producing mine in Russia, producing approximately 22.1 million tonnes of iron ore and an estimated 51.2 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Lebedinsky GOK Mine is owned by Metalloinvest MC LLC. The second largest surface iron ore-producing mine with an estimated production of 20 million tonnes of iron ore and approximately 29.09 mmtpa of ROM, was the Stoilensky GOK Mine located in Belgorod Oblast. The Stoilensky GOK Mine is owned by NLMK Group, and is due to operate until 2151.
Mikhailovsky GOK Mine located in Kursk Oblast was the third-largest mine, the Karelsky Okatysh Complex located in Republic of Karelia was the fourth-largest mine, and the Gusevogorskoye Mine located in Sverdlovsk Oblast was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated iron ore production of 18.7 million tonnes, 11 million tonnes and 9.9 million tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Mikhailovsky GOK Mine, the Karelsky Okatysh Complex and the Gusevogorskoye Mine had an estimated ROM production of 49.3 mmtpa, 34.77 mmtpa and 58.88 mmtpa respectively. The Mikhailovsky GOK Mine is owned by Metalloinvest MC LLC, the Karelsky Okatysh Complex is owned by Severstal which is due to operate until 2046 and the Gusevogorskoye Mine is owned by Evraz Plc which is due to operate until 2042.
The five largest iron ore mines, i.e., Lebedinsky GOK Mine, Stoilensky GOK Mine, Mikhailovsky GOK Mine, Karelsky Okatysh Complex, and Gusevogorskoye Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 81.7 million tonnes of iron ore, 223.24 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
