Soma Mine in Manisa, was the largest underground mine in Turkey, producing approximately 12.51 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Soma Mine is owned by Turkiye Komur Isletmeleri Kurumu. The second largest underground mine with an estimated 6.51 mmtpa of ROM, was the TavSanli Mine located in Kutahya. The TavSanli Mine is owned by Turkiye Komur Isletmeleri Kurumu.
Cayirhan Mine located in Ankara was the third-largest mine, the Milas Coal Mine located in Mugla was the fourth-largest mine, and the Soma Eynez Mine located in Manisa was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 4.95 mmtpa, 4.5 mmtpa and 3.85 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Cayirhan Mine is owned by Elektrik Uretim AS, the Milas Coal Mine is owned by Yenikoy Kemerkoy Electricity Production and Trade Inc and the Soma Eynez Mine is owned by Imbat Madencilik Enerji Turizm Sanayi Ve Ticaret AS which is due to operate until 2030.
The five largest underground mines, i.e., Soma Mine, TavSanli Mine, Cayirhan Mine, Milas Coal Mine, and Soma Eynez Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 32.34 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
