Nui Phao Mine in Thai Nguyen, was the largest surface and underground mine in Vietnam, producing approximately 3.87 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced copper (8.34 thousand tonnes) in 2021. The Nui Phao Mine is owned by Masan Group Corp, and is due to operate until 2035. The second largest surface and underground mine with an estimated 3.15 mmtpa of ROM, was the Vang Danh Mine located in Quang Ninh. The Vang Danh Mine is owned by Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Ltd, and is due to operate until 2039.
Mao Khe Mine located in Lang Son was the third-largest mine, the Mong Duong Mine located in Hung Yen was the fourth-largest mine, and the Nga Hai Mine located in Quang Ninh was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 1.68 mmtpa, 1.42 mmtpa and 1.28 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Mao Khe Mine is owned by Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Ltd which is due to operate until 2048, the Mong Duong Mine is owned by Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Ltd and the Nga Hai Mine is owned by Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Ltd which is due to operate until 2053.
The five largest surface and underground mines, i.e., Nui Phao Mine, Vang Danh Mine, Mao Khe Mine, Mong Duong Mine, and Nga Hai Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 11.4 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
