Dollar General added 953 stores in FY2021 bringing the store count to 18,566 stores in 47 states YoY. Apart from high-quality private brands, Dollar General sells products from America's most-trusted manufacturers like Clorox, Energizer, Procter & Gamble, Hanes, Coca-Cola, Mars, Unilever, Nestle, Kimberly-Clark, Kellogg's, General Mills, and PepsiCo.

In FY2021, to support its other operating priorities, Dollar General remained focused on capturing growth opportunities. It opened 1,050 new stores, remodeled 1,752 stores, relocated 100 stores, and closed 97 stores with a net store increase of 953 stores. The total store count was 18,130 stores YoY compared to FY2020.

Most of their stores are located on leased premises. They launched a partnership with a third-party delivery service DG Media Network in FY2021, which is now available in more than 10,700 stores, and it continues to grow. In FY2020, Dollar General introduced pOpshelf which is focused on categories such as seasonal and home decor, health and beauty, home cleaning supplies, and party and entertainment goods. At the end of FY2021, it operated 55 standalone pOpshelf locations and 25 pOpshelf store-within-a-store concepts within existing Dollar General Market stores.

The net sales in FY2021 increased by 1.4% over FY2020 YoY. Sales in the same stores decreased by 2.8%, primarily due to a decrease in customer traffic. In FY2021, net sales rose primarily due to sales from new stores, partially offset by a 2.8% decrease in same-store sales and the impact of store closures.
