Leggett & Platt is a leading U.S.-based manufacturer of diversified designs that produces a broad variety of engineered components and products that can be found in most homes and automobiles. It manufactures bedding components, automotive seat support and lumbar systems, specialty bedding foams and private label finished mattresses, components for home furniture and work furniture, flooring underlayment, adjustable beds, and bedding industry machinery. The company is comprised of 15 business units and 130 manufacturing facilities in 17 countries. As of FY2021, it had 131 manufacturing facilities of which 84 were located in the U.S. and 47 were located in 17 foreign countries. Its international operations are principally located in Europe, China, Canada, and Mexico.
By the end of FY2021, Leggett & Platt had a total of 131 manufacturing locations with a net closure of one store during the year. Further its operations are organized into 15 business units, which are divided into seven groups under three segments: Bedding Products, Specialized Products, and Furniture, Flooring & Textile Products. As of FY2021, it operated with 46 units under the Bedding products segment, 33 units under the Specialized products segment, and 52 units in the Furniture, Flooring & Textile products segment.
During FY2021, it acquired three businesses: A specialty foam and finished mattress manufacturer serving the United Kingdom (UK) and an Irish marketplace with two manufacturing facilities in the Dublin area that became a part of its Bedding Products segment; a Polish manufacturer of bent metal tubing for furniture used in office, residential, and other settings that became a part of its Furniture, Flooring & Textile Products segment; and a UK manufacturer specializing in metallic ducting systems, flexible joints, and components for the space, military, and commercial applications which operates within its Specialized Products segment.
In FY2019, it acquired two businesses: ECS, a leader in proprietary specialized foam technology, primarily for the bedding and furniture industries. Through this acquisition, it gained critical capabilities in proprietary foam technology, along with scale in the production of private-label finished mattresses; and a manufacturer and distributor of geosynthetic and mine ventilation products, expanding its Geo Component’s geographic range and capabilities.
