Northern Shaanxi Mine in Shaanxi, was the largest coal-producing mine in China, producing approximately 35.8 million tonnes of coal and an estimated 47.1 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Northern Shaanxi Mine is owned by Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co Ltd. The second largest coal-producing mine with an estimated coal production of 32.3 million tonnes and an estimated 33.63 mmtpa of ROM, was the Heidaigou Mine located in Shaanxi. The Heidaigou Mine is owned by China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd, and is due to operate until 2030.
Daliuta-Huojitu Mine located in Shaanxi was the third-largest mine, the Bulianta Mine located in Inner Mongolia was the fourth-largest mine, and the Shengli Mines located in Inner Mongolia was the fifth-largest mine, with a total coal production of 31.1 million tonnes, 28.3 million tonnes and 25.4 million tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Daliuta-Huojitu Mine, the Bulianta Mine and the Shengli Mines had an estimated ROM production of 41.14 mmtpa, 29.75 mmtpa and 26.5 mmtpa respectively. The Daliuta-Huojitu Mine is owned by China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd which is due to operate until 2055, the Bulianta Mine is owned by China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd which is due to operate until 2034 and the Shengli Mines is owned by China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd.
The five largest coal mines, i.e., Northern Shaanxi Mine , Heidaigou Mine, Daliuta-Huojitu Mine, Bulianta Mine, and Shengli Mines, cumulatively produced approximately 152.9 million tonnes of coal, 178.11 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
