China: Five Largest Underground Mines in 2021

  • Daliuta-Huojitu Mine in Shaanxi, was the largest underground mine in China, producing approximately 41.14 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Daliuta-Huojitu Mine is owned by China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd, and is due to operate until 2056. The second largest underground mine with an estimated 29.75 mmtpa of ROM, was the Bulianta Mine located in Inner Mongolia. The Bulianta Mine is owned by China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd, and is due to operate until 2035.

  • Dataigou Mine located in Liaoning was the third-largest mine, the Jinjie Mine located in Shaanxi was the fourth-largest mine, and the Buertai Mine located in Inner Mongolia was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 25.17 mmtpa, 22.18 mmtpa and 21.38 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Dataigou Mine is owned by Glory Harvest Group Holdings Limited, the Jinjie Mine is owned by China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd;Shandong Luneng Development Group Co., Ltd and the Buertai Mine is owned by China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd.

  • The five largest underground mines, i.e., Daliuta-Huojitu Mine, Bulianta Mine, Dataigou Mine, Jinjie Mine, and Buertai Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 139.62 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
