Fankou Mine in Guangdong, was the largest zinc-producing mine in China, producing approximately 183.2 thousand tonnes of zinc and an estimated 4.2 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Fankou Mine is owned by Shenzhen Zhongjin Lingnan Nonfemet Co Ltd, and is due to operate until 2033. The second largest zinc-producing mine with an estimated zinc production of 98.5 thousand tonnes and an estimated 6.26 mmtpa of ROM, was the Wulagen Lead and Zinc Mine located in Guangdong. The Wulagen Lead and Zinc Mine is owned by Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd, and is due to operate until 2044.
Inner Mongolia Sanguikou Zinc and Lead Mine located in Inner Mongolia was the third-largest mine, the Xitieshan Lead and Zinc Mine located in Qinghai was the fourth-largest mine, and the Caijiaying Mine located in Hebei was the fifth-largest mine, with a total zinc production of 74.4 thousand tonnes, 56.3 thousand tonnes and 38.3 thousand tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Inner Mongolia Sanguikou Zinc and Lead Mine , the Xitieshan Lead and Zinc Mine and the Caijiaying Mine had an estimated ROM production of 3.7 mmtpa, 1.29 mmtpa and 0.93 mmtpa respectively. The Inner Mongolia Sanguikou Zinc and Lead Mine is owned by Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd which is due to operate until 2042, the Xitieshan Lead and Zinc Mine is owned by Western Mining Group Co., Ltd. which is due to operate until 2030 and the Caijiaying Mine is owned by Griffin Mining Limited which is due to operate until 2062.
The five largest zinc mines, i.e., Fankou Mine, Wulagen Lead and Zinc Mine, Inner Mongolia Sanguikou Zinc and Lead Mine , Xitieshan Lead and Zinc Mine, and Caijiaying Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 450.7 thousand tonnes of zinc, 16.38 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
