Hongsa Mine in Xaignabouli, was the largest mine in Lao People's Democratic Republic, producing approximately 12.76 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Hongsa Mine is owned by RATCH Group PCL;Lao Holding State Enterprise;Banpu PCL, and is due to operate until 2042. The second largest mine with approximately 8.76 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing copper (36.08 thousand tonnes), was the Phu Kham Mine located in Vientiane. The Phu Kham Mine is owned by Government Of Lao People's Democratic Republic;Guangdong Rising Assets Management Co Ltd, and is due to operate until 2023.
Sepon Mine located in Savannakhet was the third-largest mine, the KSO Gold Mine located in Vientiane was the fourth-largest mine, and the Ban Houayxai Mine located in Vientiane was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 7.61 mmtpa, 2.78 mmtpa and 2.59 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. Primarily, the Sepon Mine produced approximately 151 thousand tonnes of copper, the KSO Gold Mine produced approximately 42 thousand ounces of gold and the Ban Houayxai Mine produced approximately 388 thousand ounces of silver in the year 2021. The Sepon Mine is owned by Chifeng Jilong Gold Mining Co Ltd;Government Of Lao People's Democratic Republic which is due to operate until 2031, the KSO Gold Mine is owned by Phonesack Group Ltd and the Ban Houayxai Mine is owned by Guangdong Rising Assets Management Co Ltd.
