Penasquito Mine in Zacatecas, was the largest silver-producing mine in Mexico, producing approximately 31,375 thousand ounces of silver and an estimated 35.9 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Penasquito Mine is owned by Newmont Corp, and is due to operate until 2032. The second largest silver-producing mine with an estimated silver production of 16,772 thousand ounces and an estimated 0.64 mmtpa of ROM, was the San Julian Project located in Zacatecas. The San Julian Project is owned by Industrias Penoles SAB de CV, and is due to operate until 2024.
