Dolores Mine in Chihuahua, was the largest surface and underground mine in Mexico, producing approximately 7.96 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced silver (4,973.35 thousand ounces) in 2021. The Dolores Mine is owned by Pan American Silver Corp, and is due to operate until 2026. The second largest surface and underground mine with an estimated 6.67 mmtpa of ROM, was the Micare Mine located in Coahuila. The Micare Mine is owned by Altos Hornos de Mexico SAB de CV.
El Limon-Guajes Project located in Guerrero was the third-largest mine, the Mimosa Unit Project located in Coahuila was the fourth-largest mine, and the Hercules Mine located in Coahuila was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 5.49 mmtpa, 5.14 mmtpa and 4.35 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The El Limon-Guajes Project is owned by Torex Gold Resources Inc which is due to operate until 2025, the Mimosa Unit Project is owned by Altos Hornos de Mexico SAB de CV which is due to operate until 2054 and the Hercules Mine is owned by Altos Hornos de Mexico SAB de CV.
The five largest surface and underground mines, i.e., Dolores Mine, Micare Mine, El Limon-Guajes Project, Mimosa Unit Project, and Hercules Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 29.61 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
