The second largest coal-producing mine with an estimated coal production of 51.1 million tonnes and 67.3 mmtpa of ROM, was the Black Thunder Mine located in Wyoming, United States. The Black Thunder Mine is owned by Arch Resources Inc.
Bailey Mine located in Pennsylvania, United States was the third-largest mine, the Black Otter Project located in Montana, United States was the fourth-largest mine and the Marshall County Mine located in West Virginia, United States was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated coal production of 10.7 million tonnes, 10.1 million tonnes and 10 million tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Bailey Mine, the Black Otter Project and the Marshall County Mine had an estimated ROM production of 14.29 mmtpa, 13.33 mmtpa and 14.15 mmtpa respectively. The Bailey Mine is owned by Consol Energy Inc, the Black Otter Project is owned by Gunvor Group Ltd and the Marshall County Mine is owned by ACNR Holdings Inc.
The five largest coal mines, i.e., North Antelope Rochelle Mine, Black Thunder Mine, Bailey Mine, Black Otter Project, and Marshall County Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 138.9 million tonnes of coal, 185.58 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
