The Telfer Mine is owned by Newcrest Mining Ltd, and is due to operate until 2025. The second largest surface and underground mine with an estimated 20.4 mmtpa of ROM, was the Moolarben Mine located in New South Wales, Australia. The Moolarben Mine is owned by Yancoal Australia Ltd;Korea Resources Corp, and is due to operate until 2031.
Hunter Valley Operations located in New South Wales, Australia was the third-largest mine, the Dampier Salt Complex located in Western Australia, Australia was the fourth-largest mine, and the Mount Pleasant Coal Mine located in New South Wales, Australia was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 14.4 mmtpa, 12.55 mmtpa and 10.5 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Hunter Valley Operations is owned by Yancoal Australia Ltd;Glencore Plc which is due to operate until 2074, the Dampier Salt Complex is owned by Sojitz Corp;Marubeni Corp;Rio Tinto and the Mount Pleasant Coal Mine is owned by Japan Coal Development Co.,Ltd.;MACH Energy Australia Pty., Ltd. which is due to operate until 2042.
The five largest surface and underground mines, i.e., Telfer Mine, Moolarben Mine, Hunter Valley Operations, Dampier Salt Complex, and Mount Pleasant Coal Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 83.11 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
