Northern Shaanxi Mine in Shaanxi, China, was the largest surface and underground mine in Asia-Pacific, producing approximately 47.09 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Northern Shaanxi Mine is owned by Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co Ltd. The second largest surface and underground mine with an estimated 29.63 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing silver (85.06 thousand tonnes), was the Zijinshan Gold & Copper Mine located in Fujian, China. The Zijinshan Gold & Copper Mine is owned by Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd, and is due to operate until 2043.
Xieqiao Mine located in Anhui, China was the third-largest mine, the Tongchuan Mine located in Shaanxi, China was the fourth-largest mine, and the Shuanmazhuang Mine located in Hebei, China was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 10.33 mmtpa, 10.07 mmtpa and 8.28 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Xieqiao Mine is owned by Huainan Mining Group Co Ltd which is due to operate until 2042, the Tongchuan Mine is owned by Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co Ltd and the Shuanmazhuang Mine is owned by Aowei Holding Ltd which is due to operate until 2043.
The five largest surface and underground mines, i.e., Northern Shaanxi Mine , Zijinshan Gold & Copper Mine, Xieqiao Mine, Tongchuan Mine, and Shuanmazhuang Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 105.39 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
