Canadian Malartic Mine in Quebec, was the largest gold-producing mine in Canada, producing approximately 714.8 thousand ounces of gold and an estimated 20.9 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Canadian Malartic Mine is owned by Yamana Gold Inc, and is due to operate until 2028. The second largest gold-producing mine with an estimated gold production of 712.8 thousand ounces and an estimated 23.26 mmtpa of ROM, was the Detour Lake Project located in Quebec. The Detour Lake Project is owned by Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd, and is due to operate until 2040.
Meliadine Project located in Nunavut was the third-largest mine, the Brucejack Project located in British Columbia was the fourth-largest mine, and the Meadowbank Complex located in Nunavut was the fifth-largest mine, with a total gold production of 370.7 thousand ounces, 345 thousand ounces and 324.8 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Meliadine Project, the Brucejack Project and the Meadowbank Complex had an estimated ROM production of 1.49 mmtpa, 0.8 mmtpa and 5.53 mmtpa respectively. The Meliadine Project is owned by Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd which is due to operate until 2032, the Brucejack Project is owned by Newcrest Mining Ltd which is due to operate until 2035 and the Meadowbank Complex is owned by Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd which is due to operate until 2026.
The five largest gold mines, i.e., Canadian Malartic Mine, Detour Lake Project, Meliadine Project, Brucejack Project, and Meadowbank Complex , cumulatively produced approximately 2,468.1 thousand ounces of gold, 52.02 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
