Ming Mine in Newfoundland and Labrador, was the largest silver-producing mine in Canada, producing approximately 2,069 thousand ounces of silver and an estimated 0.3 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Ming Mine is owned by Elemental Royalties Corp, and is due to operate until 2040. The second largest silver-producing mine with an estimated silver production of 1,383 thousand ounces and an estimated 2.25 mmtpa of ROM, was the Kidd Creek Mine located in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Kidd Creek Mine is owned by Glencore Plc, and is due to operate until 2023.
LaRonde Mine located in Quebec was the third-largest mine, the Rainy River Gold Project located in Ontario was the fourth-largest mine, and the Canadian Malartic Mine located in Quebec was the fifth-largest mine, with a total silver production of 724 thousand ounces, 611.4 thousand ounces and 580 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The LaRonde Mine, the Rainy River Gold Project and the Canadian Malartic Mine had an estimated ROM production of 1.91 mmtpa, 14.51 mmtpa and 20.94 mmtpa respectively. The LaRonde Mine is owned by Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd which is due to operate until 2030, the Rainy River Gold Project is owned by New Gold Inc which is due to operate until 2028 and the Canadian Malartic Mine is owned by Yamana Gold Inc which is due to operate until 2028.
The five largest silver mines, i.e., Ming Mine, Kidd Creek Mine, LaRonde Mine, Rainy River Gold Project, and Canadian Malartic Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 5,367.4 thousand ounces of silver, 39.86 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
