Skouriotissa Mine in Nicosia, Cyprus, was the largest copper-producing mine in the Europe, producing approximately 2.51 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021 and an estimated 4,517 tonnes of Copper in 2021. The Skouriotissa Mine is owned by Hellenic Copper Mines Limited. The second largest copper-producing mine with an estimated copper production of 198.4 thousand tonnes and 12.09 mmtpa of ROM, was the Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mine located in Nicosia, Cyprus. The Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mine is owned by KGHM Polska Miedz SA, and is due to operate until 2041.
Rudna Mine located in Lower Silesian, Poland was the third-largest mine, the Aitik Mine located in Norrbotten, Sweden was the fourth-largest mine and the Lubin Mine located in Silesian, Poland was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated copper production of 187.6 thousand tonnes, 80 thousand tonnes and 70.2 thousand tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Rudna Mine, the Aitik Mine and the Lubin Mine had an estimated ROM production of 11.87 mmtpa, 41.77 mmtpa and 7.38 mmtpa respectively. The Rudna Mine is owned by KGHM Polska Miedz SA which is due to operate until 2042, the Aitik Mine is owned by Boliden AB and the Lubin Mine is owned by KGHM Polska Miedz SA which is due to operate until 2047.
The five largest copper mines, i.e., Skouriotissa Mine, Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mine, Rudna Mine, Aitik Mine, and Lubin Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 1,072.4 thousand tonnes of copper, 146.22 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
