Centinela Mine Complex in Antofagasta, was the largest gold-producing mine in Chile, producing approximately 199 thousand ounces of gold and an estimated 56.9 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Centinela Mine Complex is owned by Antofagasta Plc, and is due to operate until 2068. The second largest gold-producing mine with an estimated gold production of 176.4 thousand ounces and an estimated 1.1 mmtpa of ROM, was the El Penon Mine located in Antofagasta. The El Penon Mine is owned by Yamana Gold Inc, and is due to operate until 2031.
Escondida Mine located in Antofagasta was the third-largest mine, the Collahuasi Mine located in Tarapaca was the fourth-largest mine, and the Candelaria Mine located in Atacama was the fifth-largest mine, with a total gold production of 161.7 thousand ounces, 102.3 thousand ounces and 91 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Escondida Mine, the Collahuasi Mine and the Candelaria Mine had an estimated ROM production of 141.81 mmtpa, 102.43 mmtpa and 23.75 mmtpa respectively. The Escondida Mine is owned by BHP which is due to operate until 2078, the Collahuasi Mine is owned by Glencore Plc which is due to operate until 2088 and the Candelaria Mine is owned by Lundin Mining Corp which is due to operate until 2039.
The five largest gold mines, i.e., Centinela Mine Complex, El Penon Mine, Escondida Mine, Collahuasi Mine, and Candelaria Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 730.4 thousand ounces of gold, 326.01 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
