Andina Mine in Valparaiso, was the largest surface and underground mine in Chile, producing approximately 31.2 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced copper (195.29 thousand tonnes) in 2021. The Andina Mine is owned by Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile, and is due to operate until 2060. The second largest surface and underground mine with an estimated 23.75 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing copper (151.72 thousand tonnes), was the Candelaria Mine located in Atacama. The Candelaria Mine is owned by Sumitomo Corp;Lundin Mining Corp;Sumitomo Metal Mining Co Ltd, and is due to operate until 2041.
Salvador Mines located in Atacama was the third-largest mine, the El Romeral Mine located in Elqui was the fourth-largest mine, and the Talcuna Mine located in Elqui was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 10.8 mmtpa, 2.97 mmtpa and 1.99 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Salvador Mines is owned by Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile which is due to operate until 2065, the El Romeral Mine is owned by Mitsubishi Corp;CAP SA which is due to operate until 2027 and the Talcuna Mine is owned by Compania Minera San Geronimo.
The five largest surface and underground mines, i.e., Andina Mine, Candelaria Mine, Salvador Mines, El Romeral Mine, and Talcuna Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 70.71 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
