Escondida Mine in Antofagasta, was the largest mine in Chile, producing approximately 141.81 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced copper (1,010.8 thousand tonnes) in 2021. The Escondida Mine is owned by JECO Corporation;BHP;Rio Tinto, and is due to operate until 2079. The second largest mine with approximately 102.43 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing copper (630 thousand tonnes), was the Collahuasi Mine located in Tarapaca. The Collahuasi Mine is owned by Anglo American Plc;Glencore Plc;ENEOS Holdings Inc, and is due to operate until 2108.
Chuquicamata Mine located in Antofagasta was the third-largest mine, the El Teniente Mine located in Cachapoal was the fourth-largest mine, and the MVC Copper Project located in Cachapoal was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 79.47 mmtpa, 64.09 mmtpa and 60.88 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. Primarily, the Chuquicamata Mine produced approximately 351 thousand tonnes of copper, the El Teniente Mine produced approximately 463 thousand tonnes of copper and the MVC Copper Project produced approximately 30 thousand tonnes of copper in the year 2021. The Chuquicamata Mine is owned by Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile which is due to operate until 2058, the El Teniente Mine is owned by Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile which is due to operate until 2073 and the MVC Copper Project is owned by Amerigo Resources Ltd. which is due to operate until 2038.
