Mantos Blancos Mine in Santiago, was the largest silver-producing mine in Chile, producing approximately 18,066 thousand ounces of silver and an estimated 6.4 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Mantos Blancos Mine is owned by Orion Fund JV Limited, and is due to operate until 2035. The second largest silver-producing mine with an estimated silver production of 9,589 thousand ounces and an estimated 102.43 mmtpa of ROM, was the Collahuasi Mine located in Santiago. The Collahuasi Mine is owned by Glencore Plc, and is due to operate until 2088.
Chuquicamata Mine located in Antofagasta was the third-largest mine, the Escondida Mine located in Antofagasta was the fourth-largest mine, and the El Penon Mine located in Antofagasta was the fifth-largest mine, with a total silver production of 9,278 thousand ounces, 5,305 thousand ounces and 3,587 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Chuquicamata Mine, the Escondida Mine and the El Penon Mine had an estimated ROM production of 79.47 mmtpa, 141.81 mmtpa and 1.1 mmtpa respectively. The Chuquicamata Mine is owned by Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile which is due to operate until 2057, the Escondida Mine is owned by BHP which is due to operate until 2078 and the El Penon Mine is owned by Yamana Gold Inc which is due to operate until 2031.
The five largest silver mines, i.e., Mantos Blancos Mine, Collahuasi Mine, Chuquicamata Mine, Escondida Mine, and El Penon Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 45,825 thousand ounces of silver, 331.19 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
