Akzhal Zinc Lead Mine in Karagandy, was the largest lead-producing mine in Kazakhstan, producing approximately 11,553 tonnes of lead and an estimated 0.5 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Akzhal Zinc Lead Mine is owned by Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant PJSC, and is due to operate until 2038. The second largest lead-producing mine with an estimated lead production of 7,912 tonnes and an estimated 2.8 mmtpa of ROM, was the Zhairemsky Mine located in Karagandy. The Zhairemsky Mine is owned by Glencore Plc, and is due to operate until 2032.
Oskemen Mine located in East Kazakhstan was the third-largest mine, the Maleevsky Mine located in East Kazakhstan was the fourth-largest mine, and the Tishinsky Mine located in East Kazakhstan was the fifth-largest mine, with a total lead production of 3,723 tonnes, 3,366 tonnes and 1,776 tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Oskemen Mine, the Maleevsky Mine and the Tishinsky Mine had an estimated ROM production of 0.17 mmtpa, 1.6 mmtpa and 0.54 mmtpa respectively. The Oskemen Mine is owned by Glencore Plc, the Maleevsky Mine is owned by Glencore Plc which is due to operate until 2025 and the Tishinsky Mine is owned by Glencore Plc which is due to operate until 2023.
The five largest lead mines, i.e., Akzhal Zinc Lead Mine, Zhairemsky Mine, Oskemen Mine, Maleevsky Mine, and Tishinsky Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 28,330 tonnes of lead, 5.63 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
