Zhezkazgan Mine in Karagandy, was the largest silver-producing mine in Kazakhstan, producing approximately 8,666 thousand ounces of silver and an estimated 23.5 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Zhezkazgan Mine is owned by Kazakhmys Holding Group B.V., and is due to operate until 2036. The second largest silver-producing mine with an estimated silver production of 1,329 thousand ounces and an estimated 2.8 mmtpa of ROM, was the Zhairemsky Mine located in Karagandy. The Zhairemsky Mine is owned by Glencore Plc, and is due to operate until 2032.
Koktaszhal Project located in Karagandy was the third-largest mine, the Maleevsky Mine located in East Kazakhstan was the fourth-largest mine, and the Artemyevsky Mine located in Karagandy was the fifth-largest mine, with a total silver production of 1,098 thousand ounces, 1,045 thousand ounces and 868.8 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Koktaszhal Project, the Maleevsky Mine and the Artemyevsky Mine had an estimated ROM production of 2.38 mmtpa, 1.6 mmtpa and 1.25 mmtpa respectively. The Koktaszhal Project is owned by Altay polymetals LLP which is due to operate until 2034, the Maleevsky Mine is owned by Glencore Plc which is due to operate until 2025 and the Artemyevsky Mine is owned by KAZ Minerals PLC which is due to operate until 2022.
The five largest silver mines, i.e., Zhezkazgan Mine, Zhairemsky Mine, Koktaszhal Project, Maleevsky Mine, and Artemyevsky Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 13,006.8 thousand ounces of silver, 31.54 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
