Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ generates four times as much sponsorship revenue than remaining 14 Premier League teams over 2020/21 season

The ‘Big Six’* have created a division in the Premier Leagueas they dominate 81% of sponsorship revenue. This highlights the growing commercial gap in the Premier League, which will likely see the rest of the division fall further behind the league’s leading clubs in both revenue and on-pitch performance, says GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s latest report ‘Business of the English Premier League 2020/21, reveals that the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ will generate just shy of $1.2bn in sponsorship agreements throughout the 2020/21 season, compared to the $261m for the remaining 14 Premier League clubs, which is four times as much.

Liam Fox, analyst at GlobalData comments: “The enduring commercial appeal of the leading six Premier League clubs lies in stark contrast to the remaining 14, whereby their international squads of superstar players, extensive global fan bases, strong social media presence and regular appearances in European club competitions provides a platform for them to attract high-value, blue-chip sponsors, which the remaining teams struggle to compete with. It is therefore no surprise to see such an unequal distribution in sponsorship revenue throughout the league.”
