Alchemie Technology to lead UK-Taiwan project on textile pollution
British dyeing solutions company Alchemie Technology has been awarded a £750,000 grant to lead efforts against pollution caused by textile finishing processes.
Alchemie Technology will use the grant to help transform the textile industry in Taiwan by developing new processes to apply polyurethane to fabrics.
The project is expected to help fashion brands reach their ESG targets by creating a cleaner and more sustainable supply chain.
The sustainable processes will allow for digital, non-contact application of polyurethane to textiles.
The project is part of a collaboration between the UK and Taiwan, aiming to reduce pollution in the global textile sector, and is the first R&D project of its kind between the two nations.
The global laminated textile market was worth an estimated $4bn in 2021, expected to rise to $6.3bn by 2030.
In a statement, Alan Hudd, CEO and founder at Alchemie Technology said, "The textile industry is all too aware of the challenges it faces when it comes to tackling emissions and pollution in the global supply chain.
“This new collaboration between the UK and Taiwan is a key milestone for the industry, with two nations working together to put practical solutions in place to completely transform the textile finishing process.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the strength of the shared purpose between our two nations, and the support from Innovate UK and the Taiwanese government to bring this project to life. This collaboration shows just how much can be achieved when countries work together to tackle high-stakes problems and we are calling on policymakers and businesses to join us on this journey.”
In February 2024, Alchemie Technology unveiled its Discovery lab system to provide industry professionals with a hands-on experience of Alchemie’s Endeavour digital dyeing process to promote sustainable textile dyeing.
Alchemie Technology has also previously opened a new production and demonstration facility in Taiwan, dedicated to woven polyester, which aims to set a new standard for textile dyeing.
