Chiliz and Atlético in significant partnership expansion
The enlarged partnership aims to increase the range of benefits that fan token holders receive.
Chiliz, the blockchain fintech provider that owns the Socios.com fan token platform, has expanded its partnership with Spanish soccer giants Atletico Madrid.
Under the new agreement, the Atlético fan token will be made available for more fans through an integration with the LaLiga club’s digital ecosystem.
The expanded partnership “increases the catalog of benefits” that fan token holders receive and the number of rewards they can earn. It allows fans to access opportunities linked to holding fan tokens through the club’s official app.
The Fan Token Experience integrates the Socios.com ecosystem into the Atlético platform and adds new features specifically designed for the club’s fans. Fan polls and trivia quizzes will be launched every day, allowing fans to earn points which can be used to redeem different rewards and experiences linked to the club.
By integrating the fan token in the club’s digital ecosystem, Atlético and Chiliz claim to be “pioneering a new frontier in the adoption of web3 technology and inaugurating a highly anticipated next stage in the vision for fan tokens.”
The integration is powered by Chiliz partner LiveLike, a company that specializes in audience engagement through gamified experiences.
The assets will expand beyond the Socios.com platform, with fans able to gain access to benefits and rewards “across a wide range of platforms and ecosystems.”
The expanded partnership between Chiliz and Atlético comes five years after the LaLiga side became the first Spanish club to launch its official fan token.
Since partnering, the two parties claim their fan token has allowed fans across more than 120 countries to take part in dozens of fan-related decisions by voting on binding Fan polls.
Alejandro Ugarrio, director of Atleti Lab, said: “We want to continue improving the experience of our fans worldwide and this new integration with Socios.com is perfectly aligned with our strategy. We are very excited because, through our app, fans will now be able to access a very attractive proposition full of different types of benefits for them.”
Alexandre Dreyfus, founder and chief executive of Chiliz and Socios.com, added: “This is a significant step in the adoption of fan tokens and digital assets by tier-one sports teams. By becoming the first club to integrate their fan tokens into its own native channels, Atletico are leading the way in delivering digital benefits to their fans while inaugurating a new stage in the fan token journey - one in which the utility will expand far beyond the Socios.com app.”
Socios.com has partnerships with several other major European soccer clubs including Barcelona, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur.
