CHOC secures donation for new pediatric urgent care centre
Planned to open in 2025, the new centre will provide care for children with lower levels of acuity, and minor injuries.
Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), a pediatric healthcare system in Orange County, California, US, is set to enhance its urgent care services for pediatric patients supported by a $6m donation from the Tsao Family Foundation.
The funds are earmarked for the establishment of a new urgent care centre, which will be dedicated to children in South Orange County.
Planned to open next year, the new centre will be equipped exclusively for pediatric care.
The facility will provide services for pediatric patients and offer care for children with lower levels of acuity such as sore throats, viral infections, and minor injuries.
This expansion builds on CHOC’s existing infrastructure of urgent care facilities across Orange and Los Angeles counties, including two paediatric-focused centres in Orange.
The Tsao Family Foundation's latest contribution marks its biggest donation to an Orange County nonprofit so far.
This deepens the Foundation's ongoing partnership with CHOC, which began in 2022 with a $2m gift.
The previous donation facilitated the creation of 17 WellSpaces in Irvine schools.
CHOC primary care vice president Anita Sankaran Piskun said: “CHOC’s urgent care centres provide a vital service to our patients and families, ensuring they have access to the right care at the right time.
“This wonderful gift from the Tsao Family Foundation will help us better serve families in South Orange County when their paediatrician’s office is closed or an emergency department visit is unnecessary – all while keeping them close to home.”
