Fortis opens tertiary care hospital in Bengaluru, India

The Nagarbhavi facility has reportedly been opened with an investment of approximately $719,400 to $ 839,300.

Indian private hospital chain Fortis Healthcare has inaugurated a new multi-speciality tertiary care hospital branch in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, in the Indian state of Karnataka.

The facility, which marks a significant expansion of Fortis’ healthcare services in the region, has an existing bed capacity of 80 and will help in addressing the growing demand for patient care.

An investment of approximately Rs60m to Rs70m ($719,400 to $839,300) has been channelled into upgrading the Nagarbhavi facility, Business Standard reported.

The Nagarbhavi facility represents the fifth hospital within Fortis Healthcare's hospitals network in Bengaluru, with the Bannerghatta hospital being the largest facility.

It is equipped to offer a variety of healthcare services, including a Fortis cancer institute, around-the-clock emergency and trauma care, an intensive care unit, and a Fortis heart and vascular centre, as well as women and child care services.

In addition to healthcare services, the new hospital will also serve as the campus for the Institute of Gastrointestinal Sciences.

Located in the west Bengaluru area, the hospital, which currently employs 100 clinicians, is planning to expand its existing bed count of 80 to 100 to meet the needs of the expanding patient base.

Business Standard quoted Fortis Healthcare group chief operating officer Anil Vinayak as saying: “This will be a combination of brownfield expansions of existing hospitals. Many of our hospitals are undergoing expansion.

“We will expand our hospital on Bannerghatta Road in the next couple of years. In addition, we will launch the acquired Meodar Hospital in Manesar having 450 beds, in the upcoming months. We are on the lookout for expansion, both brownfield and acquisitions.”

The report said that Fortis Hospital is now aiming for earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation growth of approximately 20%.

Fortis Healthcare, part of IHH Healthcare Berhad, has an extensive network that includes 28 healthcare facilities, more than 4,500 operational beds, and over 400 diagnostics centres.

The company plans to expand its bed capacity in India to 10,000 over the next five to seven years.

Last August, Fortis Healthcare completed the acquisition of Medeor Hospital in Manesar, India.
