Meijer donates $3m to build children's rehab hospital in Michigan
The new three-storey facility looks to serve children, who have suffered life-altering injuries or illnesses.
Meijer, a supercentre chain that mainly operates across the Midwestern US, has announced a $3m donation to support the construction of the Joan Secchia Children's Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The new three-storey facility looks to serve children who have suffered life-altering injuries or illnesses.
It will cater to a broad spectrum of paediatric conditions, including brain and spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, multi-trauma, and cancer.
The building will include 24 private inpatient rooms, child-friendly technology, and spaces dedicated to specialised services.
The $70m project is scheduled to break ground this year and be completed in 2026.
This new hospital is a collaborative venture between Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation and Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.
Located on Wealthy Street opposite the Mary Free Bed Grand Rapids Campus, the facility will be connected by a pedestrian walkway.
Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation, a non-profit entity, employs over 2,400 staff across more than 60 locations. Corewell Health, also a non-profit, has a team of over 60,000, including 11,500 physicians and advanced practice providers, as well as 15,000 nurses across 21 hospitals, over 300 outpatient sites, and multiple post-acute facilities.
Expressing the company's commitment to supporting health initiatives, Meijer president and CEO Rick Keyes stated: "As a family-owned company, we are humbled to give to organisations that provide hope and healing to so many families. We're thrilled to be able to help Mary Free Bed and Helen DeVos Children's Hospital create the first children's rehabilitation hospital in Michigan and provide support to families in times of need."
Meijer operates over 500 supercentres, stores, neighbourhood markets, and express locations across the Midwest.
