SFL awards domestic media rights to Swisscom, SRG SSR

Swisscom-owned Blue Sport will broadcast all Swiss Super League matches with SRG SSR showing one game per week.

Swiss soccer’s Swiss Football League (SFL) organizing body has announced that it has awarded domestic media rights to its top two tiers to two networks - pay-TV provider Blue Entertainment AF and the country’s public broadcaster, SRG SSR.

The two companies will share the domestic TV rights to Switzerland’s top-tier Super League and second-tier Challenge League (as they do currently) from the start of the 2025-26 season through to the end of 2029-30.

Every single Swiss Super League regular season match, as well as the season-enfing relegation playoffs, will be available on Blue Entertainment’s Blue Sport channel, with national broadcaster SRG SSR showing one fixture per gameweek. Both rights-holders will also be able to broadcast highlights of every league fixture on both their linear and digital platforms.

Blue Entertainment owner Swisscom, the Swiss telecommunications giant, acquired the rights to the Super League in 2020 for the 2021-25 period, sublicensing one game per week to SRG SSR, in an agreement that is set to continue following the SFL’s February 26 tender.

Previously known as Teleclub, Blue Sport has held Swiss Football League rights in some form concurrently since 2006.

Blue Entertainment’s free Blue Zoom channel will also showcase the “flagship” match of each gameweek from the Challenge League live, with SSR offering highlights of its 180 games per season.

Claudius Schäfer, Swiss Football League chief executive, stated of the new deal: “In a difficult context, we managed to find a solution satisfactory for all parties. We thus guarantee on the one hand that Swiss club football remains visible to a wide audience, and on the other hand, that the clubs receive compensation for their media rights. This provides stability and planning security for Swiss club [soccer].”

SRG SSR is also the Swiss rightsholder for national team soccer competitions organized by European governing body Uefa through a deal signed in 2021 that will run through 2028.

Through its membership of the EBU, the free-to-air group of European broadcasters, SRG SSR has been a long-time rights-holder for Swiss national team games and UEFA national team competitions, and was the host broadcaster of Euro 2008, a tournament co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland.
