Sonoco's EnviroFlex Recycled Content portfolio receives ISCC PLUS certification
Sonoco Flexible Packaging, a division of Sonoco, a global packaging company, has recently been awarded an International Sustainability and Carbon Certification System (ISCC) PLUS certification.
This certification, granted by the ISCC, applies to the company’s EnviroFlex Recycled Content portfolio.
The award provides third-party validation of Sonoco's resin-sourcing practices at its Morristown, US-based facility.
The certification is said to be a voluntary commitment that improves transparency and ensures the traceability of recycled material across the supply chain via a mass balance methodology.
Sonoco's EnviroFlex Recycled Content line of packaging offers a range of custom barriers against oxygen, moisture, and grease, and is suitable for various applications.
The line aims to incorporate circular practices into flexible packaging without compromising performance and machinability.
The certification enables Sonoco to provide its customers with verifiable materials that contribute to sustainability goals and support the growth of recycling infrastructure.
Sonoco technology and marketing vice-president Laura Buen Abad said: “As a Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) chain of custody certified facility, the Morristown operations bring extensive knowledge for validating source materials.
“Achieving ISCC PLUS certification within our EnviroFlex Recycled Content portfolio showcases our commitment to bringing circularity to flexible packaging.”
The ISCC is an international certification system, covering biogenic wastes and residues, non-biological renewable materials, agricultural biomass, and recycled carbon-based materials.
Recently, Kraton, a global speciality polymers producer, received ISCC PLUS certification for its manufacturing facility in Belpre, Ohio, US.
