Webuild subsidiary starts work on Zuluf water treatment plant
Webuild Group subsidiary Fisia Italimpianti has commenced the construction phase of a new water treatment plant in Saudi Arabia.
The development is part of the Zuluf onshore oil plant complex project, located in the Persian Gulf.
The commencement of the construction phase marks a milestone for Webuild's expansion into the water market and Fisia's entry into the oil and gas (O&G) sector.
The Zuluf oilfield, operated by Saudi Aramco, is undergoing extensive development as part of the country's Saudi Vision 2030 growth plan initiated in 2018.
Fisia was awarded two contracts last year, totalling €408m ($442.80m), to construct and manage the Zuluf water treatment facility.
Prior to construction, Fisia completed the engineering design, material procurement, and preliminary activities to enhance the soil's suitability for the plant's foundations.
The plant, situated in the country's eastern province, will have the capacity to treat up to 185,000m³ per day of water.
This treated water will be injected into offshore wells to boost crude oil production.
The facility will feature a degassing system and a treatment and filtration section.
The project also encompasses auxiliary systems and buildings for administrative, technical, and control purposes.
Fisia has constructed desalination and water treatment plants in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, serving more than 20 million users with its technologies.
Webuild Group is involved in several projects in Saudi Arabia, including 57km of the Connector high-speed railway line for NEOM, lake and architectural features at Trojena, and more.
This month, Webuild’s US subsidiary Lane secured a $299m contract to undertake the expansion of the Seminole Expressway in Florida.
