AWI is actively engaged in research and development across various sectors to drive innovation and address societal challenges. One of the key projects includes the development of a bio-methane production system from unused resources, tailored for the Indian market. This initiative is part of the NEDO's international demonstration project for decarbonization and energy transition. Additionally, the company has advanced its hydrogen society construction technology by establishing a CO2-free hydrogen supply chain using unused natural gas in Toyotomi, Hokkaido. This project marks the first commercial-scale demonstration of CO2-free hydrogen production using the Direct Methane Reforming (DMR) method in Japan. The company is actively working on low-concentration CO2 recovery and utilization technologies. Through collaboration with universities, they are developing new technologies for capturing low-concentration CO2, aiming to provide appropriate recovery and utilization technologies for various demands. The company has also completed the development of a small CO2 recovery unit, 'ReCO2 STATION', and delivered its first commercial units in Hokkaido and Tokyo. Furthermore, they are involved in a project to develop a system for separating and recovering CO2 from incinerator flue gas, with a demonstration scheduled for FY2026. This project aims to reduce energy consumption associated with CO2 recovery, with plans for commercialization by FY2027. In FY2026, the company incurred expenses of JPY5,102 million on R&D, which as a percentage of revenue, stood at 0.5%.
