Banque de France (BdF) is the central bank of France responsible for forming regulations, supervision of financial institutions, and implementation of monetary policy. It is responsible for regulation and implementation of monetary policy for banks operating in France. The bank ensures smooth circulation of banknotes and coins in France and looks after financial markets and oversees payment systems and financial stability. Through the network of 96 departmental branches located throughout France, it supplies cash to credit institutions, and the post office, which distributes the cash to the public. It sorts banknotes to identify and remove any counterfeit, worn, torn and stained banknotes from circulation. BdF produces banknotes through its paper mill at Vic-le-Comte and printing works at Chamalieres, Auvergne. It performs its central bank tasks within the framework of the Euro system, which is made up of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the euro area national central banks. The bank implements the Euro area monetary policy operations in France, refinances French banks by supplying them with the liquidity they need.
