R&D Overview
Essential Energy's R&D arm focuses on innovative research and development activities to enable the energy transition and develop the network of the future. The company focused on technologies and innovations necessary for the energy transition, such as co-developing Australia's first combined charging system (CCS2) V2G network, partnering with CSIRO for V2G technology advancement, scaling up pole-mounted EV charging solutions, and developing integrated AC EV chargers in street furniture. Essential Energy also expanded the NEXUS innovation test facility, co-developed a prototype lower noise ground-mounted battery, and deployed early fault detection technology for bushfire risk reduction. In terms of future networks, the company optimized two-way energy flows, transitioned from 240V to 230V, established a dynamic connections solution with ANU, and procured a new Utility Server for DERMS communication. The company also evaluated alternative energy supply options, such as islandable microgrids, storage-based microgrids, and Stand Alone Power Systems, and implemented dynamic load control management. Additionally, Essential Energy conducted agricultural safety research in collaboration with SafeWork NSW, Deakin University, and the National Centre for Farmer Health. -
