EWE has been actively involved in various innovative research and development projects in the grids business area, focusing on the management and operation of power and gas grids. In FY2024, the company continued work on projects such as Warmewende Nordwest, Redispatch 3.0, unIT-e², and WARAN. The ANaPlanPlus project, which dealt with automated grid expansion planning, was successfully completed. The company also received funding grants for Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) to build one of Europe’s largest electrolyzers, convert a natural gas cavern to hydrogen storage, and develop hydrogen infrastructure. The WARAN project aims to explore power and heating sector coupling, while the Redispatch 3.0 project focuses on improving the integration of low-voltage plants and enhancing cooperation between distribution and transmission system operators. The unIT-e² project contributes to digitalization and aims to optimize the management of low and medium-voltage grids. EWE is also involved in the Clean Hydrogen Coastline IPCEI project, which covers the entire hydrogen value chain. Additionally, the company is working on the kurSyV project to explore curative system management in the distribution grid. EWE NETZ and BTC AG are involved in specific projects, with EWE NETZ coordinating market players and BTC AG developing a digital heating transition platform.
