Inpex Corp (Inpex) is an integrated energy company. It carries out the discovery, drilling, gathering and selling of crude oil and natural gas; refining, marketing and sales of crude oil, condensate, LPG, natural gas and LNG. The company also generates electricity. The company operates through two business segments Domestic O&G, Overseas O&G and Other. Geographically, the company operates across Japan, China, Thailand, Asia, Europe and Others. In FY2024, the company incurred a capital expenditure of JPY301,061 million which was 13.3% of the company’s total revenue and grew 19.4% YoY.
R&D Overview
Inpex is actively engaged in research and development activities to support the energy transition and maintain its role as a major energy supplier. The company is focusing on several key areas, including hydrogen and ammonia production, CCS/CCUS technologies, methanation, CO2 recovery, and the development of digital technologies. These initiatives are aimed at achieving a net-zero society by 2050, enhancing the efficiency of CO2 capture and storage, and improving the sustainability of energy production and supply. The company's R&D activities are managed by the INPEX Research Hub for Energy Transformation (I-RHEX), which is part of the Innovation Headquarters. I-RHEX is responsible for advancing research in the net-zero field and addressing technological challenges related to the hydrogen supply chain, CCS/CCUS, and other innovative energy solutions.
