Korea Electric Power Corporation (Korea Electric Power Corp) is primarily involved in the development, generation, transmission, substation, and distribution of electric power resources. It also undertakes related sales, research and technology development, investment or capital contribution, utilization of real estate holdings, and other businesses commissioned by the government. It also purchases electricity produced by power generation companies, private power generation companies, and district power companies from the power exchange and sells it to general customers.

R&D Overview
KEPCO has undertaken numerous R&D initiatives, including the development of domestically produced hydraulic actuators for 1,000MW turbine steam control valves, offshore structures using coal ash for resource circulation, an automatic diagnosis device for a power supply module of an IoT-based wireless main control system, and rapid and safe maintenance demonstration technology for boiler water-cooled wall tubes. The company has also developed an outdoor coal storage coal dust mixed rainwater drainage system, technology to increase plant efficiency through uniform internal flow of environmental facilities, and a sensor fusion-based digital control platform for renewable fuel cells. Other projects include the development of a non-submersible bar screen for seawater facilities, a chute and impact bar assembly to prevent dust leakage from coal handling equipment, and an AI-based power generation control system abnormal behavior detection model. The company is also working on a digital twin-based IGCC high-risk area worker safety management platform using wearable sensing and edge computing technologies, and a technology for preventing worker human error on-site safety program. In FY2024, the company spent KRW773,931 million on R&D, which as a percentage of revenue stood 0.8% and decreased 7.8% YoY.
