Mr. Steven A. Markel has been the Chairman of the company since May 2020. Prior to this, he served as the Vice Chairman of the company from 1992 to 2020. Previously, he served as a Director at Union First Market Bankshares Corporation from 2010 to 2013. Earlier, he worked as a Director of S&K Famous Brands, Inc. from 1996 to 2009. He has been assoctaed by the Company since 1975. Prior to this, Mr. Markel also served as a Director of other public companies of Union First Market Bankshares Corporation and S&K Famous Brands.

Mr. Thomas S. Gayner has been the Chief Executive Officer of the company since January 2023 and is its Director since 2016. Prior to this, he served as the Co-Chief Executive Officer at the company. Previously, he served as the President and Chief Investment Officer from 2010 to 2015 and Director at The Coca-Cola Company and Graham Holdings Company.

Mr. Brian J. Costanzo has been the Chief Financial Officer of the company since December 2023. He also serves as Chief Financial Officer of Markel Insurance since December 2023. Previously, he served as the Senior Vice President of Finance, Chief Accounting Officer and Controller from 2022 to 2023. Prior to this, he held the position of Principal Financial Officer (on an interim basis) from 2023 to 2023. He also served as the Chief Accounting Officer and Controller from 2021 to 2022. Mr. Costanzo was the Controller from 2019 to 2021 and the Segment Controller - U.S. Insurance from 2014 to 2019.

Mr. Richard R. Grinnan has been the Chief Legal Officer, Secretary and Senior Vice President of the company since February 2020. Previously, he served as the General Counsel and Secretary of the company from June 2014 to February 2020. Earlier, he worked as the Assistant General Counsel from August 2012 to June 2014.
