The centre also explores energy-efficient methods, such as cold-bonded pelletization and the use of alternate fuels like biomass and hydrogen. It is responsible for driving innovation in mineral processing, agglomeration, and bulk solid flowability. It supports NMDC’s core mining and production units and extends its services to domestic and international clients. The centre is involved in mineral characterization, beneficiation, metallurgical investigations, and the development of dry processing technologies. The R&D Centre collaborates with academic and industry bodies to enhance its research footprint in areas like complex ore upgrading and circular economy solutions. NMDC is involved in developing dry beneficiation techniques to reduce water usage and improve resource recovery. NMDC holds 21 patents for its innovations. The company has established major technology alliances, including the NMDC Innovation and Incubation Centre (NICE) launched with the i-TIC foundation at IIT Hyderabad. In FY2025, the company spent INR307.4 million in R&D activities, which stood at 0.1% of the company’s revenue.
